It looks like we are going to have a pretty good turnout, right at 70 including spouses and girlfriends. I know everyone is as excited as we are about seeing old friends and remembering old times.
Friday evening we start out at New Providence Church Westminster Hall for a BBQ. We will begin gathering at 4:00 pm to socialize with all, and then eat around 6:00 pm. You can park in the church’s back parking lot near the pavilion. The New Prov Men run the parking for ballgames. Just tell them that you are there for the reunion which they know about. They would appreciate a small donation ($3-$5) since parking cars is one of their fund raisers. After enjoying a great supper and renewing friendships, we will go across the street to watch the Rebels play Bearden High School on the new football field. For those of you who have not seen it or the team lately, you are in for a treat. We will have your pre-purchased ticket to the game. If you do not want to go to the game, Marty has graciously invited you to go to her home to continue remembering the good ole days of MHS. She will give directions at the dinner.
Saturday morning at 9:00 am, we are meeting at the school to have John Kerr take us on a tour of the ever-changing facility. Come in the main entrance near the end of the school where the gym is located. It is the first door to the left of the gym. We will have coffee and Richy Kreme donuts for those that are interested. If your spouses would like to come, please bring them along.
Saturday evening at 5:30 pm, we are meeting at The Life Events Center for hors d’oeuvres and fellowship with our classmates and their spouses. Food will be provided along with tea, water, and soft drinks. If you would like to have wine or beer during the evening, feel free to bring it with you. We will have coolers, ice and glasses available for your use. The Life Events Center is located at 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike behind Smithview Funeral Home down from Blount Memorial Hospital. Turn off of Hwy 321 (Walland Highway) at the red light just past the hospital and take the second entrance. There are signs to guide you to the Center.
Please bring any pictures, newspaper articles, or whatever else you’d like to share with the class. We’re hoping some of you have pictures of the class plays, band trips, pep rallies, ball games and float-building adventures that you will share. Dig deep and see what you can find! Someone has a picture of an early birthday party that we’re sure will surprise a few classmates.
If you have any questions, please call any of the committee members who will do their best to find the answer. We all are looking forward to seeing you on Friday, October 25, 2013. It has been fun for the committee to meet and plan this big occasion.

We are raising funds for the major improvements to the MHS stadium. Funds from the campaign will go toward repaying public funds used from the capital account with private dollars. The amount we raise will determine what will be named for us as a class. To donate, complete the donation form, make the check payable to “MHS Red to Black” and note on the check that it is from a member of the class of 1963. You can give the form and check to Steve Shields at the reunion or mail it to the address on the form. He will present the donation to the school on behalf of our class. The weekend of October 25th and 26th has been selected in order to frolic in the cool time of the year, enjoy the fall leaves, and partake in a Maryville football game. A tentative schedule has us meeting Friday at New Providence church for a meet, greet, and eat (barbeque) starting 4-ish followed by the game or socializing at Marty’s for those not gaming. Saturday morning we have pressed John Kerr into giving us a tour of the school whilst recanting old tales of misdeeds, kissing in the halls, etc. Saturday evening’s event will be at the Life Center down from the hospital and behind Smith Mortuary. It will be catered by Chef Tony's Catering.
